In the fall of 2014 I was diagnosed with cancer. Doctors put me on an operating table and physically removed the cancer from my body and put it in a place where it could no longer hurt me. But you and I are more than just a physical body. We have an eternal soul that will live forever. And while cancer and disease cannot hurt our soul, we have a much more serious condition than cancer that if not removed will hurt us forever. That condition is called sin. A doctor cannot get it out of you. You cannot pray it out of you. You cannot get rid of it by going to church and you cannot get rid of it by being a good enough person – what’s good enough?
The Bible says that everyone has sinned and the wages of sin – what we earn from our sin is separation from God – forever.
But the Bible also says that while the wages of sin is death, the free gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ.
The Bible says if you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
This is the good news of the gospel. Only Jesus can remove the effects of your sin from you. I asked Jesus to rescue me. If you’re reading this today and have not asked Jesus to rescue you from your sin, you can say a simple prayer right now if you’re ready. It’s not the words themselves but it’s the attitude of your heart:
“Jesus, I confess to you that I sin. I know I deserve to be punished for my sin. I am truly sorry for the wrong things I have thought or said or done. But I say now that you are my Lord. I believe that God raised you from death to life. I believe that you died for me and took the punishment I deserve from me and put it on yourself. Thank you for doing that for me. Right now, I want to turn away from doing life my way and do life your way. Thank you for giving me real life right now! Amen.
If you just prayed those words and really mean it, Jesus says, “…those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life” (John 5:24).
So…what does all this mean for you? You now have a relationship the Creator of the universe who loves you enough that He died for you. What does He want? He wants you to get to know Him better and that you can do this better together than alone.
One last thing – If you’re reading this and have trusted Jesus, there’s a button below you can click to let the folks at Practice Ministries know about your decision. We would enjoy nothing more than to pray for you as you begin your journey with Jesus.
